![]() Why Organic?
Essentially, it’s a return to the way we should have been gardening in the first place, working with nature instead of against it. Conventional landscaping and gardening techniques are typically based on pesticide use. This approach is based on concepts of war, conquest and domination of nature. For over half a century we have been fighting the war against garden diseases and problem insects with pesticides, which are harmful to the environment. However, despite all the industry hype, we’ve learned that pesticides have limited effect. Diseases mutate, developing new strains that are winning the war against pesticides. Insects develop resistance as well. While we’ve dramatically increased the amounts of pesticides we use, crop loss due to insects has doubled since 1945. Moreover, as we’ve come to rely on pesticides, we’ve moved away from the very techniques that would reduce the need for these dangerous chemicals, instead adopting practices that weaken the land and its plants.
Organic practitioners see things in a different light, working in alliance with nature to grow healthy gardens and lawns. Healthy soil is the foundation of this approach. Good soil is rich in organic matter and microbes that provide the foundation for strong plant growth. In Harmony recognizes our connection to the web of life, and uses techniques and environmentally safe products to boost the strength and vitality of our gardens, making for healthier, more disease resistant plants, trees and grasses. |
